KUALA LUMPUR: Nirvana Asia Group was entrusted by the Health Ministry in compliance with overall safety standards to professionally handle the final rites of a patient who died of Covid-19.
Although the victimβs next-of-kin were not allowed to participate in the process, Nirvanaβs bereavement care team assured both family members and the Health Ministry that the case would be treated with utmost professionalism.
After being entrusted by the Health Ministry with the task, Nirvanaβs bereavement care service team rushed to the hospital on March 31 to collect the remains which were then delivered to the crematorium for cremation. The whole process was conducted in a highly professional manner and in compliance with ministry guidelines.
Ever since the novel coronavirus outbreak, Nirvana Asia Group founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Kong Hon Kong has been monitoring its developments closely.
When he was contacted by University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) to assist the family of a Covid-19 victim in handling the remains, he agreed.
Kong states that Nirvana operates a business that places great importance and value on life, and he views providing the deceased with final dignity as its mission.
The Group is willing to take on corporate social responsibility and assist families of Covid-19 victims with financial difficulties overcome challenges through provision of free bereavement care services.
He points out that Nirvana Asia Group will strictly abide by the Health Ministryβs instructions and guidelines on handling bodies of Covid-19 victims.
The remains were first processed by ministry personnel before being collected for cremation by Nirvanaβs team in full protective suit.
βThe imported protective suits worn by our team are made of a material called Tyvek, used by medical personnel when handling high-risk patients,β Kong says.
βIt covers the entire body and prevents contact with liquids, thus avoiding the risk of infection.β
He says the Nirvana team managed the remains in a timely but respectful manner in accordance to instructions from Health Ministry officials.
Full disinfection measures were carried out after the removal of protective suits. Finally, following instructions from the ministry, comprehensive cleaning and disinfection of the cremation site was also performed to ensure overall safety.
After dealing with the case, Nirvana Asia Group has immediately set up a dedicated team to handle remains of Covid-19 victims.
The team will be on standby 24 hours a day to provide the best bereavement care for families in need of assistance.
