Lai Meng’s funeral at Nirvana

KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of the late veteran actress Datuk Lai Meng can pay their last respects to her at a memorial ceremony that will span four days.

The Datuk Lai Meng: The Final Curtain memorial service will take place at Nirvana Memorial Centre (Level 2, Sunflower Suite, Parlour 23, No 1, Jalan 1/116A Off Jalan Sg Besi) here from Saturday to Tuesday.

They can do so from 1pm to 5pm.

The 90-year-old actress, whose real name is Lai Kwai Yoon, died on Sunday morning, leaving behind three children and five grandchildren.

The funeral procession will take place this morning. The public may attend the homage-paying ceremony at 11.20am.

The cortege will leave for the Nirvana Memorial Garden (Semenyih) at 1.45pm.

Nirvana Memorial Park central region chief operating officer Datin Lee Jye Chyi briefed the media about the arrangements at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Sg Besi yesterday.

Also present were Lai’s sons Yap Meow Siew and Meow Chook, and daughter Yee Mih.

Lai, who has been a Nirvana Ambassador since 2009, will be interred beside her husband’s ashes.

The actress bade farewell to the performing arts scene in a retirement gala dinner attended by hundreds of fans and friends at HGH Convention Centre in Sentul on Jan 27 this year.

Before her death, Lai was working on a film about a woman who took a fall, which was being directed by her godson Bjarne Wong.
